Top Tips for Running a Successful Event

If you are planning on running a successful event, there are just a few things to remember. It is important to have the logistics down, these are just a few tips to make your event extra special.

Make sure your attendees feel welcome

Once they have signed up to the event, send them a confirmation email or message welcoming to the event. It is a good idea to give them a countdown – eg. “We look forward to seeing you soon – only 14 days til our event”. This way it gives the attendee a time frame.

Make sure people turn up prepared

If there is something that needs to be done in preparation for the event such as reading an article or book then make sure that all delegates are prepared and know what must be done. This will save any confusion on the day.

Provide some refreshments

If your budget allows, it is worth stretching to buy refreshments for your event. This allows for some networking before the event starts. Allows people to refresh and relax throughout the day during breaks. Venues will charge extra for this but it is worth the investment as it shows that you care about those attending your course.

Allow for plenty of breaks

Make sure that you plan breaks for throughout the day – the day should be broken up, ideally with three breaks. This gives people a chance to chat and wind down and be ready to concentrate on the next section.

Make sure you set a date – in enough time

The date of your event should be set in enough time – ideally in 4-6 months. Make sure you are aware of public holidays and religious holidays. Always check dates with key participants such as speakers and VIP guests

Brand your event

You will want your attendees to be able to easily reach your venue, if its within your budget it is worth moving your event closer to the city centre as it means people can reach you by public transport as well as by car.
